How can I book a lesson?

What do I need to book a lesson?
You’ll need to have your provisional driving licence, or be able to produce it 48 hours before your first lesson, and be able to pass the eyesight test wearing glasses or contact lenses if usually worn.
How do I pay for a lesson?
Preferably by BACS or through the Total Drive app. Card payments are accepted by phone but incur a small surcharge of 2% (64p per 1-hour lesson) and cheques are acceptable providing they clear before a lesson is given.
How do I get a provisional driving licence?
You can apply online on the official Government website – click here. Only use the GOV.UK website. There is no fee for applying, just for the licence itself.
What about the Theory test?
Again, the official Government website is the place to go – click here. Please only use the GOV.UK website.
Whichever instructor you choose please consider passing your theory test as soon as possible. There is still a long wait for practical tests (4-5 months) and you don’t want to be approaching test standard and not have passed your theory.
How do I pass my Theory test?
You’ll have access to Theory Test Pro which gives you access to scenarios and practice sessions.
When should I book my driving test?
Only when you and the instructor agree you are ready to take your test. [see this link: Ready to Pass? – How to pass your driving test]
Who can book a test?
Either the student or instructor. Students MUST ensure the instructor is available on the day if they wish to use Croft Driving’s vehicle. The instructor can book a test either directly with the DVSA for the test fee or, with the prior approval of the student, through a 3rd party who will charge the DVSA test fee plus and administration fee [currently £40]. Croft Driving will also charge an administration fee of £15 for arranging tests in this way.
How long will it take to reach test standard?
The DVLA says that the average time to pass the driving test for people who pass the first time is around 40 hours of lessons with a driving instructor, supplemented by 20 hours of supervised practice with family or friends.
What about practice?
If you have a family member or friend who is qualified to supervise you (see this link – https://www.gov.uk/driving-lessons-learning-to-drive/practising-with-family-or-friends) it should help you progress more quickly.
Marmalade insurance offer a range of policies for family members/friends which generally don’t affect the no claims bonus on the vehicle.
